England team and FIFA fair play

After a few weeks busy staring at my 42” High Definition Television for the World Cup 2010 football matches in HD format, it is getting more interesting now on the quarterfinal matches. But one missing team that was supposed to be the winner of the World Cup 2010 as what everyone expecting is ENGLAND !!!

In my opinion, I thought that the current England team really does not deserve to win the World Cup. It seems like they were not a great team with strategy and tactics playing that can go all the way to the final match. First, they lacked a good potential experience goalkeeper that can help block every shoots from everyone shooting at their goal. I agreed with Oliver Kahn of Germany that he said England does not have an experience goalkeeper to choose from especially from the English Premier League because most of the best goalkeepers playing in the English Premier League are all from other countries such as Van der Sar of Manchester United, Petr Cech of Chelsea, Almunia of Arsenal etc. What they have are like David James of Portsmouth, Robert Green of West Ham which their clubs are always at the bottom of the league table. So, where can they get an experience goalkeeper for the country?

Secondly, from the match that I saw when England was playing Germany, it seemed that England’s defenders were not defending enough on their area. From the way the goals scored by Germany, most of their scorers were not marked at all by any of the England defenders or whoever that supposed to mark them. The Germany scorers were freely to receive the balls and just shot in as they wished. Was it because Rio Ferdinand was not playing and that’s was the reason they lacked on defending? I doubt it.

Thirdly, on the striker front, I still do not understand why Capello chose to play Heskey most of the time. If Heskey was not functioning well, he should have change to Defoe and what he did later or give to other such as Crouch to play. Well, that was his strategy. I am not a football coach, I might be wrong but at least everyone has a chance to voice out what they think about the current England World Cup 2010 team.

Lastly, if Lampard’s disallowed goal against Germany was allowed, will they make any difference if the score was in 2-2 draw again? Will England able to come back when they tied the score during the second half? What I can say is that it was really a fantastic goal that was not allowed to stand. It was clearly a goal from all the angles of the camera when we saw it on television, but alas, the decision was still in the referees’ hands. As according to the FIFA rules if there is, the referees will have the final decision on the matches and no appeal will be entertained at all. But what if it is really a bad decision call by the referees and they have robbed the chances to the team that still have a chance to win, can they go on to apply for a court decision to reverse the referees’ decision with all the enough proofs taken? Let’s hope that FIFA will make a change quickly to put in additional linesmen on the goal lines or other methods for a fair decision making for the outcome of a “FAIR PLAY” match as what FIFA always wanted. You want to have a “FAIR PLAY”, you also need to be FAIR from their referees’ decisions.

Anyone has any other comment or suggestion, please post it here. Let’s have an exciting final match of the World Cup 2010 and may the best team wins.

Thanks.

Mother’s Day Gift

Mother’s Day is one of the days that we pay tribute to our mother. This year (2010), Mother’s Day will be celebrated on 9th May. I wish everyone will take this day to get together with their mothers and spend more time with them.

Some mothers like to smoke. The reason that their mothers like to smoke may due to the environment, the enjoyment they are getting from smoking, the pressure they are having that lead to them to smoke, the addiction or whatever reasons they have.

However, smoking may not be good to them. Personally, I do not like mother to smoke. In long term, smoking may jeopardize their health and may lead to lung cancer or any other sickness. That’s why, I recommend that smokers, whether is a mother or anyone, should reduce smoking or quit smoking at all. However, if you cannot quit, maybe try to smoke in a different way. A different way to smoke which will lead to healthy lifestyles and healthy environment is to take Green Smoke.

Green Smoke offers a different type of quality cigarette which is the Electronic cigarette with disposable cartridges. It comes with variety of flavors and nicotine levels and has been independently tested for safety. It tastes and feels just like tobacco cigarettes but is completely smoke free and tar free. It is good for smokers to change from an unhealthy style of smoking to a more healthy style of smoking and is the best alternative to tobacco. It is just like a real cigarette but without all the adverse side effects for smokers as well as creating a better environment for the people around the smokers.

If your mother smokes, why not ask her to smoke differently which will be better for her health and also other people’s health. For this Mother’s Day, why not get her a better gift for her. Get her a “Green Smoke” Mother’s Day Kit.

Please click on the link of the picture below for the promotion of “Green Smoke” Mother’s Day Kit. She will experience a difference of smoking lifestyle with a happy feeling that creates a better bonding to the family.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Thanks.

Take the Risk and Break the Ice

This article was written by myself and was published in the newsletter of Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club issue number 1. I republished this article here and welcome your feedback. I appreciate if you could give some valueable feedback or comments or any suggestions that related to this article so that everyone will have benefit of getting more ideas on public speaking. Thank you.

Public speaking has always been a challenge for me. I still remember… at the tender age of 10, I took part in my primary school’s speech contest. As I stood in front of my teachers and fellow students in the school hall, I experienced my first stage fright… I felt extremely nervous, my palms were sweaty and my hands shook like in an earthquake. I wish the stage would swallow me up.

Ironically, despite my fearful childhood experience, I became a trainer. I am also sometimes engaged to be master of ceremony, speaker introducer and facilitator. I have to confess… in spite of my profession and the advantage of speaking in front of people, whenever I am in front of an audience, I still shake, get butterflies in my stomach, heart pumps faster and sometimes my mind goes blank.

Luckily, over the years, with practice, I look confident and comfortable enough training in front of any new audience. I count my lucky stars when I joined Toastmasters because I finally learned proven methods to conquer my fears. I started my Toastmasters journey with the first project speech, “The Ice Breaker”. Then, during evaluation, my speech evaluator gave me valuable feedback and ideas on how to improve and that is when I knew, my Toastmasters training would help me become an even better trainer. We can overcome our fears with action.

Life is an adventure… every one of us will definitely have moments where we need to speak in public. When you want to do something, there will always have a risk. After all, if you never take risks, you will never experience change and growth. In fact, everything in life involves some form of risk. When you learn to ride a bicycle, drive a car or swim, you could fall, crash or drown. Though you should not take every risk, you should take the risk that will reward you in some way.

Carolyn Kerner Stein, author of the book “Delivering Powerful Speeches”, recommends the following 3 questions to help you check if the risk you wish to take is worth taking:

1. Will I regret not trying?
2. Win or lose, succeed or fail, will I be proud of myself for trying?
3. What is the worst thing that can happen if I try?

For example, for me to take the risk to take part in our club’s International Speech contest, I did check:
Q: Will I regret not trying?
A: Yes, I will regret if I did not take part in the speech contest. I will miss the chance to perform and better my speaking skills. This way, I get a chance to compete with other talented members to improve further.

Q: Win or lose, succeed or fail, will I be proud of myself for trying?
A: Yes, I am proud of myself to take part in the contest. Win or lose, at least I tried my best to get rid of the fear to do it.

Q: What is the worst thing that can happen if I try?
A: I may still get nervous, hands will shake and make a fool of myself in front of the audience but at least I try and even if I did not win the contest, I will never give up. I will keep on contesting because one day, I will win.

Another confession… I do not enjoy taking risks, but I learned that things will happen and when we take action to deal with them, we still come out standing tall.

So, remember to ask yourself these 3 questions whenever you endeavor to take risks. You will never know, once you practice answering these 3 questions every time, you will have no fear to do the things that you have never done before. So, take the risk, break the ice and break the barriers. Instead of letting fear conquer you, conquer your fears.

As Roscoe Drummond says, “The mind is a wonderful thing. It starts working the minute you are born, and never stops until you stand up to speak in public”.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

As a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), I have always needed to upgrade my IT knowledge to follow the IT trend. I have already trained Windows XP and Windows Vista courses and now it is time to move forward to the latest Microsoft Windows products, Windows 7.

1. I have already been a Windows Vista user for more than 2 years and now I have upgraded to use Windows 7. Even though there are a lot of similarities between Windows Vista and Windows 7, but there are new features available and enhancement that makes it better to use Windows 7.

2. To start exploring into Windows 7, the first thing we need to look at, are our machines able to install and run Windows 7? Basically, for those machines already running Windows Vista, it should have no issue to run on Windows 7. However, to those older machines that are running on Windows XP and earlier version of Windows Operating Systems, it is recommended to run some testing to check if the machines can be installing and run on Windows 7. One important aspect that you need to look at is the peripherals’ drivers. Are the drivers Windows 7’s compatible? If your computer is still attached to old outdated printer, scanner or fax, those existing drivers might work fine in XP, but will it able to operate with Windows 7?

3. There is no need to waste time referring to system requirement on those peripheral manufacturers’ websites. The easiest solution is to run a simple software tool that can be download from Microsoft’s website since Windows 7 is a Microsoft product. This software tool is known as Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it is designed to analyze the system and scans to look for weaknesses and problems with incompatibility with your hardware, devices and installed programs as well as give warning about any potential issues and recommend what to do before you decide to purchase Windows 7.

4. Therefore, before you start thinking about buying a Windows 7 license package, I advise you to run this Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor first to ensure your machine can run and compatible to Windows 7. You can get this free Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor at this link here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15&displaylang=en

5. After you have downloaded this small software, follow the instructions to install it into your computer. After installation, it should be available inside the Windows Menu when you click on the Start button in Windows Vista, or in Start->Program Files if you are using Windows XP or earlier Windows version.

6. One recommendation is that before you start to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it is advisable to plug in all of the peripherals that you use on a regular basis in the computer that you are assessing. This is to allow the software tool to look at and assess all of the accessories that you have in that computer besides assessing the computer’s internal components so as to check whether they will work or not. The peripherals that I am referring here are printers, scanners, external hard disks, digital cameras, mobile phones, MP3 players and so on.

7. Once you hooked up everything, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor software and then click on the “Start Check” button. It may takes a few minutes depending on how old your computer is and how many accessories you have attached to it. Just let it run until it finish.

8. After the analysis completed, it will show you the screen that tell you all about your PC’s ability to run Windows 7. It will tell you if you can upgrade directly or not from your current Windows operating system installation. Else, it may tell you with an alert advising that you must backup all your programs, data and documents and perform a custom installation or a clean installation to install Windows 7 from scratch.

9. Apart from telling you whether you can upgrade or perform a clean installation, Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will also warn you that some of the features that you are currently running may not be available once you have installed or upgraded to Windows 7. One of them is the Windows Mail email application in Windows Vista or the Outlook Express in Windows XP. These applications are no longer included in this new operating system. However, if you still need to use email application and of course most of us need to use it, you can download the new “Windows Live Mail” from Microsoft website. This Windows Live Mail is a new powerful offline mail application with the Calendar feature and built-in Anti-Phishing tools. I will write more about this Windows Live Mail in the future post.

10. Lastly, at the bottom of the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor evaluations, there will be a summary of technical requirements to tell you if you have enough hard disk space, memory RAM, appropriate processor that can run Windows 7 and also let you know if your computer can run Aero effects such as the transparent windows. If also advise you on what software for your hardware may need updating and what application programs are not fully compatible to run in Windows 7.

There you go. Don’t just simply buy a Windows 7 and install into your computer. Check it out first if your computer can really upgrade or run Windows 7. Use this Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

I will write more about Windows 7 in my blog here for your learning knowledge. Please feel free to give any comment here or email me at victor@victorwan.com

Thank you for reading.
